Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D is probably some of the best SUV Winter Tires available on the market. It’s sibling the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 5 made it to the 5th place in our Top 5 Winter Tires for SUV.

This tire was voted as one of the best Winter tires for SUVs in most recent surveys and we agree with them. It is a tire that will perform extremely well in winter conditions. 

Winter Sport 3D Features

Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D has a special silica compound mixed with its tread; this makes the tread more elastic in freezing temperatures, thus improving grip and handling.
Run-flat version is another cool feature of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D. As most of the run-flat tires, this also allows you to drive up to 80km after a puncture. Of course, you need to have proper wheels and your car must have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

This tire comes in a wide variety of sizes from 15 inches up to 21 inches. It was designed for a wide range of vehicles starting from small city vehicles and up to large SUVs and Trucks.

Winter Test

We were quite impressed with these tires, especially in deep snow and icy roads. Most of the Winter Tires act somehow similar in dry conditions since on a dry road you will have grip most of the time. On icy roads, on the other hand, things are completely different.

On dry roads, even at high speeds the tires kept the car on the desired trajectory and those 3D sipes did what they were supposed to do: keep the tire on the road.

In deep snow, on the other hand, we saw just how good these tires are. Steering and braking went perfectly fine without losing traction. We managed to get out of really deep snow on a very bumpy, undulating uphill country road. Of course, the AWD traction helped as well, but the tires helped as well.

Comfort

These are not the most comfortable tires you can get, because of the noise they made, especially on dry roads. After all, you cannot have everything on a tire.
For a Dunlop Tire, the tread wore is very good. Dunlop is well known for having tires that last less than other top tire manufacturers.

Pros

• Impressive grip in snow, ice, dry or slush conditions.
• Excellent steering response, especially on icy and snowy roads.
• Good traction control.

Cons

• Quite noisy
• The comfort is not perfect.

Conclusions

Due to its 3D silica compound and tread pattern these Dunlop tires are probably some of the best Winter Tires for SUVs and small cars as well. They are a serious competitor for the most expensive Michelin Latitude X-ice.
